Those of us who know girls with Rett syndrome (RS) are aware that many of these girls are capable of intentional communication. Once you learn the unique behaviors of a particular girl you can "read" her cues and interpret her behavior. Often you find that she has much to "say" and can communicate a variety of intentions or purposes, such as making requests and choices, instructing or directing others, expressing a range of emotions, and sharing ideas and interests with others in a variety of activities.
