International Stuttering Day Resources - featured October 23, 2009
< Back to Previous PageIn commemoration of International Stuttering Awareness Day, Thursday October 22nd, we have some stuttering resources for you as well as some ideas for how you can get involved as an advocate for those who stutter. Many of these resources definitely should be added to our PediaStaff stuttering pages too and we will get them up as soon as we can:
- Read and Share these Myths about Stuttering, in both English and Spanish.
- The Stuttering Home Page, created by Judith Maginnis Kuster and maintained at Minnesota State University, Mankato, is dedicated to providing information about stuttering for both consumers and professionals who work with people who stutter. It includes information about research, therapy, support organizations, and conferences and other events. We especially recommend the two sections for School and Pre-School Based SLPs!
- Visit the Stuttering Foundation website and the National Stuttering Association websites for a wealth of information for professionals, parents and your kiddos.
- Are you an SLP with expertise or an interest in Stuttering? Attend one of the many National Stuttering Association Support Groups and help support NSA members struggling with their stuttering problem.
- Give a classroom presentation about Stuttering, Talking to classmates about stuttering can help make children who stutter feel better about their speech and themselves. It also creates a place in the classroom that feels safer to stutter and/or to use speech tools. A free tri-fold brochure provides presentation ideas for children, teens, and speech-language pathologists who want to communicate information about stuttering in the classroom.
- Join an Internet Discussion Group, Most appropriate for SLPs are "Stutt-L" and "Covert-S."
- Find a CEU Opportunity Stuttering Foundation CEU Opportunities and NSA Soponsored CEU opportunities, workshops and events
- And of course...Don't forget to visit our PediaStaff Stuttering Resources Page
