An international research effort suggests a person’s culture plays less of a role in the formation of personal boundaries than individual, personal factors. These individual factors relate to the creation of personal sovereignty and self-esteem.
The finding stems from a comparative analysis of the psychological boundaries of individuals living in different countries by researchers from universities in Armenia and China.
Professor Sofya Nartova-Bochaver explains that every day, people must defend their boundaries in relation to their own body, home, personal belongings, friends, tastes, and values.
