Transition Special Education Teacher - Lisle, IL

Are you seeking a school position as an LBS1 Special Education teacher in a Therapeutic Day School?  Would you like to work with Transition aged students?  We need a teacher to work in a collaborative and dynamic school in a self-contained classroom of transition students to work year-round in our school.   If you enjoy working with kids with autism spectrum disorders, this may be the job for you!

This private school works with children of all ages with autism spectrum disorders and strives to meet the needs of each individual with creative, evidence-based therapy. If you're looking for a year-round school environment where you can work closely with the students you serve and with a team of dedicated professionals, then this position is for you!

* Seeking an LBS1 certified Special Education Teacher for a full-time position in the vicinity of Lisle, IL
* Ideal start date is August 12th
* School day is from 7:45-3:45 during the regular school year
* Young  caseload consisting of transition-aged students with a mix of profiles with your focus being on independent life skills
* You will have both a supervisor and a mentor teacher to meet with weekly
* You will have a Para who will be your right-hand person daily and be the sub when you are out
* You'll work in a fast-paced environment using a multi-disciplinary team approach 
* Candidates are expected to be committed team players
* Pediatric experience strongly preferred
* No travel/one school 
* Salary dependent on experience 

Duties and Responsibilities
*       Teach in a self-contained classroom 
*       You will plan ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies
*       You will oversee Goak Directed instruction on the IEP goals
*       You will supervise paraprofessionals 
*       Comply with the professional code of ethics and school policies
*       Maintain student files including appropriate documentation and student attendance to session
*       Participate in team meetings and professional development sessions
*       Consult and collaborate with therapists, other team members
*       Work with Program Assistants to model strategies, discuss student progress, and assess student needs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
*       Ability to effectively communicate assessment results, evaluations, and proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by team members, the district, and parents
*       Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders
*       Ability to treat students with autism spectrum disorders
*       Familiarity with relevant diagnostic tools and procedures
*       Knowledge of relevant occupational therapy treatment strategies and protocols
*       Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards
*       Knowledge of the use and maintenance of facilities and equipment 
*       Knowledge of sensory and behavioral strategies
*       Knowledge of child development theory
*       Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
*       Ability to use computers (word processing software, therapeutic/educational software)
*       Knowledge of relevant equipment for occupational therapy
*       Strong written and communication skills

Qualifications: Must hold a Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Special Education and have the LBS1 certification. Autism experience preferred but not necessary.
