Using Robots to Treat Autism

< Back to Previous Page

Teams at the USC Robotics Research Lab, Vanderbilt University, Japan and the UK have created several robots to encourage autistic children to be more social. Capable of basic social interaction, the researchers have found that the robots encourage the children to speak more, engage with more eye contact and more. Researchers theorize that the while humans may be intimidating to autistic children, robots allow the child to interact on his own terms.
