Qualifications:
- Active Maryland RN license
- Experience with pediatric seizures, tube feeding, and emergency response.
- CPR/BLS certified; may require Seizure First Aid training.
- Ability to lift/position the student (if mobility assistance is needed)
Role Overview:
As a 1:1 School Nurse, you will provide dedicated medical support, monitoring, and intervention for a high school student with complex health needs, including tube feeding and seizure management, ensuring safe participation in school and transportation.
Job Details:
- Support the transport and medical needs of a student during the day
- Schedule: 6:30am-3:30pm
- High School Student
- Student is tube fed and needs to be monitored for seizures
- In-person only
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and respond to seizure activity, including administration of emergency medications (e.g., Diastat, rescue meds) as per the student’s Seizure Action Plan.
- Assess and document seizure frequency, duration, and post-ictal recovery.
- Accompany the student on the school bus to monitor for seizures or feeding needs during transit.
- Ensure proper positioning and safety during transport (e.g., wheelchair/securement if needed).
- Administer enteral (tube) feedings as prescribed, including setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting feeding pump.
- Maintain hygiene and site care for the feeding tube (e.g., G-tube, J-tube).
- Monitor for complications (e.g., reflux, tube dislodgement, infection).
- Carry and be trained on the student’s Emergency Healthcare Plan (EHP) and IEP/504 Plan.
- Respond to medical emergencies (e.g., aspiration, respiratory distress).
- Communicate daily with parents/guardians and school staff regarding the student’s condition.
- Maintain accurate health logs (seizures, feedings, vitals if required).
- Train school staff (as needed) on seizure recognition/response.
