- Must hold an Illinois PEL in teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing; Itinerant experience is preferred
- Proficiency in American Sign Language is preferred, but not required
- This is an in-person position only
- Must hold a drivers license to drive from school to school during the work day.
Role Overview: As a Teacher of Visually Impaired (TVI) you will have the primary responsibility of specialized instruction and services required to meet the unique educational needs of students with visual impairments. This role offers the opportunity to work with young learners in a supportive school environment while making a lasting impact on their development.
Job Details:
- Students range from PreK – HS ages
- Dates: August 11, 2025 – June 3, 2026
- Hours: 7:30am-3pm (estimated based on school)
- Setting: School setting
- Caseload: 20-30 students at 10-15 schools in suburban Chicago area
- In-person only
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized lessons tailored to each student's hearing needs, including academic content, orientation and mobility skills, sign language efficiency training, and adaptive technology use
- Conduct comprehensive vision assessments to determine individual needs, monitor student progress, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Collaborate with other educational professionals to create and implement individualized education plans for students with vision impairments
