Peds Therapy Corner: The Importance of Creative Play and Art in Child Development

Children are born with imaginations. Adults and particularly parents should nurture children’s imaginations and rejoice in their creative minds. However, at times, we might unintentionally suppress children’s imaginations, possibly concerned that children don’t understand what is real. Most children three and older, know that for example, polka dot cows don’t really exist but love opportunities to imagine and think creatively. When we allow children to use their imagination, it is helpful and there are many benefits of pretend play in child development.
