BrainPOP Jr. Movie of the Week is a truly unique app in that it covers a great width and breadth of common knowledge-based topics in the early grades through high interest animated shorts.  Each week a free Movie of the Week becomes available to anyone who has the app installed.  This short educational movie is chosen from one of the hundreds available from BrainPOP Jr. and made free for one week (full access is $5.99/month or free to subscribers to the main BrainPOP Jr. website).
These videos are brief  (around five minutes in length give or take) for the shorter attention spans of younger children, are animated (cartoon-style) learning explorations between Annie and her assistant the robot Moby.  Not only are there sound effects and narration in the movie, but it is also subtitled at the bottom of the screen for silent reading with the sound turned off, or just as a literary extra for beginning readers.
The educational videos are focused on six main categories: Science, Health, Reading & Writing, Social Studies, Math, and Arts & Technology.  These main categories are further broken down to help parents find videos they need to supplement their lessons (when a subscription is purchased).  For example, the main category of Math includes the following sub-categories: Number Sense, Addition and Subtraction, Measurement, Geometry, Time, Money, Data and Probability, Fractions, and Multiplication and Division, with each sub-category including 6-10 videos.  A search function is also available for topical searches.
