Celebrate Cultural Diversity! PediaStaff Resources for Hanukkah and Kwanza!
Christmas-time is a wonderful time of year, but it is also a time for other celebrations as well., Rather than lumping all of the holidays into a mush of “Holiday” celebrations that lose the essence of each individual traditions, how about celebrating diversity with some activities for the other holidays celebrated this time of year? We have already featured some excellent activities by Therapy fun Zone (dreidel game for OT), Speech Room News (menorah speech and language activities) , and Speech Lady Liz (Kwanzaa speech and language activity), but here are some others that we like a whole lot that we have found on Pinterest.
Hanukkah, (also spelled Chanukkah) starts at sundown December 20th. Here is our Pinterest pinboard for Hanukkah. The board is loaded with word searches, crafts, coloring pages, poems, mazes and more. Here are our some of our favorites that we have not already featured:
Get Your Kids Moving with ‘Candlelight’ by the Macabees. This is a funny and well produced music video parody of the popular pop song ‘Dynomite.’ The kids love it.
Great online site with interactive games and even a “How To Hanukkah” section
Tissue Paper Dreidel
Audio Stories and Worksheets on Speakaboos
Kwanzaa starts December 26th. The holiday was created during the 1960s, to brings a cultural message which speaks to the best of what it means to be African and human in the fullest sense. While not celebrated universally by African Americans, it is quite important to many families, and conveys a wonderful message that can remind all our kiddos that they are citizens of not just our country, but of the world.
Here are some of our favorite activities for Kwanzaa from our Kwanzaa Pinboard that we have not featured elsewhere:
Folded Kwanzaa Kinara
Kwanzaa on PBSKids.org
Kwanzaa Necklace Craft
Large Collection of Printables and Activities for Kwanzaa on Enchanted Learning
